American Bingo is a paper-based game played with two or more players on a 5x5 grid. The goal is to be the first to complete five horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines on the grid. Originally popular in the United States and Canada, it has since gained popularity in other regions as well.

    How to Play

In Taiwan, for instance, two players play the game by filling in numbers from 1 to 25 on their respective grids. Then, the two players take turns calling out random numbers. Players mark the numbers on their grids as they are called, and the first player to complete five numbers in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, wins. Once five lines are marked, the player can call out “Bingo!” and win the game.

In a group setting, each player’s card is randomly filled with numbers from 1 to 25. The game host will read out numbers in random order (no repeats), and players mark the corresponding numbers on their cards. Once a player marks five lines, they can call out “Bingo!” to win.

    Group Games

Bingo can also be played as a group game, often used as a fun icebreaker to help people get to know each other. Typically played with 25 or more people, the game still uses a 5x5 grid, but the conditions listed in each of the 25 squares are different. For example, one square might be “girls,” and another “people wearing pants.” Players must find 25 different people who meet the conditions listed and ask them to sign their card. After all the squares are filled, the host randomly calls out names of the participants, and players mark off those squares on their cards. The first player to mark five complete lines on their grid calls out “Bingo!” and wins the game.
